Win a New Beco Baby Carrier!!!

Sign-up to win a Beco baby carrier of your choice. Eight winners will be drawn on May 20th.

Go HERE to learn more about the Beco Butterfly 2.

The Hues collection are designer fabric choices and the Duo collection uses organic fabrics.

I have an original Beco Butterfly. I absolutely love it!! We used it with our newborn (now 6 mo. old) and our 2 year old, and all stages in between. The Butterfly 2 is the updated/revamped version and even better than the first. I really hope I win one so that I can quit toying with the idea of buying a new one.

Free Emergen-C Samples

Go HERE to share a free sample of Emergen-C with someone (can even be yourself!). Seems you can do this multiple times, by sending it to anyone you think could use some Emergen-C.

If you have not tried Emergen-C, I highly recommend requesting a free sample. It provides around 1,000% of your RDA for Vit. C. Plus it has electrolytes, and also B vitamins for energy, etc. We all love it, including the kids. It is an excellent immune booster.

Sneak Peak: 5/03 Coupon Insert

Visit Southern Savers to see a list of the coupons that will be in Sunday's paper. It may vary somewhat. There will be three inserts: SmartSource, Red Plum and P&G.

Baker's Creek Spring Planting Fest May 3 & 4

Baker's Creek old time village hosts Heritage Days celebrations the first Sunday of the month. It is located outside Mansfield, MO.

Probably the biggest of the year is the Spring Planting Festival.
This year it is Sun. May 3 and Mon. May 4
Visit the website for directions and more info.

There are usually around 100 vendors with all manner of plants, trees, seeds, cool garden tools, natural products, hand-crafted items, honey, gourmet foods, herbal soaps, books and more! You can also browse the Baker's Creek stores for heirloom seeds and other goodies.

There is music and entertainment, as well as gardening speakers. They also have a new restaurant opening.

I hear the remaining plants usually get discounted on Monday.

I'm interested in hearing if you plan on going! It should be a lot of fun.
[I will be out of town that day. =( ]

Weleda Clearance at Walgreens

Previously, I mentioned the Weleda coupons you can use at Target in this post.

Well, the Weleda Skin Food manufacturer coupon you can print there can also be used at Walgreens. Skin Food is on clearance at some stores right now. I found it for $4.24 minus $3 coupon = $1.24!!! That is a steal!

There are also other Weleda products on clearance, too.

So, I really like shopping at Target--especially if it keeps me from going to ugly Walmart.
I mentioned the Target Coupon Generator earlier, and thought I would simplify it for you.

Remember, you can stack these with manufacturer coupons.

Delicious Living's E-Coupons

Delicious Living has links to a variety of coupons for healthy and organic foods.

Here is a link to a coupon for $1/1 on Back to Nature products.
These pdf coupons make me a little leery, but I can't find anything to suggest it isn't legit.

Where I find the deals

So, here is the rundown on where I look for coupons and deals. It seems much of what is floating around on deal blogs (mine included) is recycled information from one site to another. So, I'll tell you where I look and you can check it out for yourselves. I'll just stick to posting the super fantastic things I find.

I put up a list of links on the right, so click on those to find these sites.

It's Hip to Save -- She is great about updating frequently and having the major offers. I check her site several times throughout the day.

Southern Savers--Has great coupon tutorial info. She posts Kroger match-ups, but their week starts on Sun. I often check it out as a preview to what we might get at Dillons on Wed.

Moms by Heart-- She does full ad match-ups for Walgreens and CVS.

The Grocery Weekly-- located in Topeka, she does match-ups for Dillons that pretty closely mirror ours.

Hot Coupon World and A Full Cup are both coupon forums and have coupon databases. The databases are invaluable. If you need a coupon for an item, or want to do a match-up yourself, just type the items in there. They both (along with Organic Grocery Deals) have a Target Coupon Generator. You can print coupons for Target-- and these can be stacked with manufacturer coupons. The forums are also great to get more detailed info on certain stores, etc. I particularly check the Walgreens forum for clearance finds, etc.

There are a few other blogs I check occasionally, but these are the ones I use the most. Let us know if you have found any you enjoy!
Have you visited OldNavyWeekly.com yet? You can go and hunt around for coupons. The site reloads with new coupons each week. Lately it has been on Thursdays around 7 o'clock or so. (No one knows what time it will reload)

There have been coupons for $75 off $100 purchase. $50 off $100, 50% one item, etc.

Just to let you know it works, this week, I found a $75 off $100 coupon!!!!! We are going shopping tomorrow!

Be sure and let me know if you snag a good one! They will probably reload this next Thurs. Good luck!

Future of the Blog

So, I am kind of tired. I'm tired of shopping. Tired of posting. Tired. I think I need to spend less time on the computer. I will still try to share my finds, but if it seems not many of you are reading, I may slowly thin it out. We'll see. But, I would like to share some of my favorite sites and let you know a little more about how I have found some of the deals.
Feel free to share your thoughts and tips to the rest of us too. Thanks!

Walgreens: Week of 4/26

Well, the Easy Saver Catalog is history. April was it's last month. Walgreens is now just offering more RR and if there are rebates, they print off the Catalina machine. You fill them out and send them in. (blaah...)

You can visit Moms by Heart for a page by page coupon match-up for the coming week's ad.

I have to say there isn't anything that I will be rushing out for.

Clearance Alert

I have seen at my local store
Emergen-C Pink Lemonade (this is one of my fave flavors) $5.99 If it isn't that low at your store yet, keep your eye on it. Also, price check it once in awhile, as Walgreens is notorious for not gettting the markdowns all the time.

Nature's Path Pumpkin Raisin Crunch Cereal & granola, too. It was $2.79 (use a $1/1 from go organic book)

Dillons & Price Cutter: Week 4/20 -- UPDATED

I was really hoping to actually get to the store before posting this, but alas....

From the ads, these are the highlights I saw:

Dillons
Haagen Daz pints are 10/$10 Uh, yeah, I should have realized it was too good to be true. This was for the 4 oz (one bite size!)

Strawberries are $1.99 for 1 lb (includes the organic) We got some and are making jam!! (not the cheapest for it, but I was itching to do it.

I heard Barilla whole grain pasta might be on sale 4/$3 if so, use $.50/1 coupons from 3/29SS
Not this price.

Overall, I did not find too much at Dillons this week.

Sargento Artisan Cheeses are on sale, so if you have a $.50/1 coupon it's a pretty good price.

The R.W. Knudsen juices are still on sale for 2/$5--ends this week. A great deal with the "Go Organic" coupon of $1/1

Price Cutter

They are having a fruit/produce sale
Tomatoes on the vine are $.99/lb
Sobe is $.99 (not saying truly healthy) Get a B1G1 HERE Edit: It is the Sobe on sale, not Sobe Lifewater.

If I ever get out of this house, I will try to update what I find in-store.

How to Avoid MSG

How to Avoid MSG

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is one of the most common and hazardous food additives on the market. MSG is reportedly more toxic than alcohol, tobacco and many drugs. MSG is an excitotoxin, so it tricks your brain into wanting to eat more and more foods containing the ingredient, even if you are already full. Side effects of MSG include: obesity, eye damage, headaches, depression, fatigue and disorientation. Food manufacturers know that health-conscious consumers try to avoid MSG, so it is oftentimes not listed in a product's ingredients. MSG is banned in organic foods.

Here's a list of ingredients that ALWAYS contain MSG:

Autolyzed Yeast -- Calcium Caseinate -- Gelatin Glutamate -- Glutamic Acid -- Hydrolyzed Protein -- Monopotassium Glutamate -- Monosodium Glutamate -- Sodium Caseinate -- Textured Protein -- Yeast Extract -- Yeast Food -- Yeast Nutrient

Added:
$5.00 off one case of Seventh Generation Chlorine Free Diapers.
visit: www.drugstore.com/sg5diapers COPY AND PASTE!
You MUST copy and paste this link to get the $5.00 off a case. Should work with the free tote deal, too! This means you can get one case for $31.57, OR you can actually buy one pack of newborns for $5 off, which would be $5.14 (great price!) This is on top of all 7th Gen products being 30% right now.

There is also free shipping for orders $25 and up with first-time orders, $49 and up for the rest of us.

I may just have to go shopping!

Why am I so excited about this? My order just shipped today. I told myself I would only get stuff that I a) needed b) couldn't find cheaper elsewhere
I think I managed to do that. I bought 7th gen dish deterg and dishwasher deterg--both less than Frontier prices. I bought some 7G pads (Lord knows when I'll need those, but I assume someday--lactational amenorrhea, tmi) and some 7G toilet cleaner (vinegar/bkg soda hasn't been cutting it)--again less than Frontier. I also bought some de-luxe soap. Technically we don't need it, as we are well stocked. But the price was fantastic (can you find a natural soap for less than $1/bar?!), and we are always bathing, so odds are we will be needing it. And with all that I earned my sample-filled tote. I'm such a sucker. (said with a big smile)

Trail Mix Crunch $.50/box at Walgreens!!

Walgreens has a sale on Trail Mix Crunch Cereal. The cereal is on sale for $2.50/box. This is part of the Post Cereal sale. The Trail Mix Crunch probably won't have a sign, but it still rings up $2.50.

Go HERE to print a $2 coupon. You should be able to use the back browser to print it multiple times.

You could also use the $1/1 coupon in the 4/5SS if you don't print the others.

BTW, the key to printing SmartSource coupons is patience. You can often print out up to 10 if you stick with it long enough, however, for this coupon, people are reporting printing 2-5 typically (per computer). Good luck! Let me know if it works out for you.
I was able to print 3/computer.

Update: The RR deal I mentioned earlier ended yesterday. However you can still get the cereal for $.50/box!

Have a Blessed Easter

I will be out of town for 4 days. I should be back on Tues, and I hope you will join me then.

No Coupons in 4/12 Paper

Don't bother running out to buy a paper for the coupons on Sunday.
They will be back again on 4/19, though!

Mama Jean's: April Sale

I stopped by Mama Jean's yesterday. They had a sale flyer for the month of April and the Spring Healthy Clippings coupon book. If you haven't gotten it yet, get one asap, as they don't seem to last too long.

I thought about scanning the sale flyer, but it is giving me trouble. Since I don't know how much you care about such things, I won't worry about it unless someone asks.

There are quite a few match-ups between the sale and the coupon book. Here are some products listed in both:
Biokleen BacOut sale $6.49 (coupon $1.50/2)
Earth Friendly Laundry Liquid (even with sale and cp., still not as cheap as Frontier)
Nature's Path Flax Plus Cereal sale $2 for 6 (coupon for $1/1)
--Buy 2, use 2 coupons--only $2 ea.!
EcoPacs and Envirokidz Cereal

Let me know if you find any good deals I missed!

Other deals on sale w/o coupons:
Aura Cacia lavender essential oil .5 oz $5.99 (Frontier price is $6.19)

Homemade Detergent Recipes

If you haven't thought about making your own detergent before, perhaps these recipes will inspire you!

Homemade Laundry Soap

1 cup Washing Soda (found in laundry aisle)
1 cup Borax (found in the laundry aisle)
1 bar Soap*

Slice soap into strips and run through food processor to make "soap beads".

Combine soap beads, borax, and washing soda. Done!

Use 1-2 tablespoon for small loads, 3-4 tablespoons for large loads.

* Some recommended soaps are: kirks castile, fels naptha, ivory, walgreens "gentle bar", Dr. Bronners bar soap. I don't guarantee any particular one! Try to look for one that is soap, not detergent or moisturizing, etc.

Homemade Diaper Detergent

1 cup Washing Soda
1 cup Borax
1 cup Oxyclean Free (I use the Sun brand Oxygen cleaner found at Walmart--super cheap!)

You could add in a couple drops of essential oil (tea tree oil, lavender--avoid citrus, as it might cause repelling issues)

Combine all ingredients. Done!

Use 2 tablespoons for a small load, 1/4 cup for a large load or hard water.

I have not made the Laundry Soap yet, but look forward to trying it.
I have been using the Diaper Detergent for about 4 months now and love it!

Have you used either of these recipes? Do you do something differently? Let us know!

Did you get the super heavy Sunday paper?

I am now kicking myself for not getting more than one. There were a ton of great coupons in there. And I even knew ahead of time what was there--guess I didn't really pay attention. Here are a few I was happy to see:

Vitamin Water $1/1--that means Free at Walmart or Target!

Daisy Sour Cream $.50/1--will double.

Kellog's Cereal $1.50/1 very high dollar and means dirt cheap cereal (which is good when DH sucks it down) =)

There was a B1G1 for Schick razors, which will get them free at Walgreens this week.

Johnsonville Brats $.55/1 (makes $1 at Dillons) We like the Turkey Brats for cookouts.

Whole Fruit Sorbet $.75/1 Now where do I find this?! DH is in love with sorbet right now!

Free Marcal TP. (one roll)

$5 and $10 off Nature's Best dog/cat food Hopefully I can find it on sale somewhere.

Breyer's Ice Cream $.75/1 I just found this one!!!

If you got the 3/29 paper. The SS (smartsource) had Kraft dressing $1.50/1 It is on sale at Walmart now for $1.58-- $.08 each!! I was able to get 7 this week! I'll donate some and kept some vinagrettes for quick marinades, etc.

I found a tearpad for Earthbound Farms $.55/1 (will make $1 at Dillons) in front of the organic produce at Price Cutter on Battlefield. Same store had display of Kraft dressings with tearpad for $1.50/1 (get coupon and use at Walmart)

Walgreens: week of 4/5/09

Visit It's Hip to Save to see the upcoming week's sales at Walgreens.

I will probably do the Colgate Total deal several times. I have quite a few $1.50 off coupons, which means I earn $1.50 every time I use one. Plus, I get free toothpaste to donate. I may also try to get some of the Schick razors--to go with all the shaving cream I got this week to donate.

I am waiting on the Physician's Formula deal, as it should go 40% the week of 4/19.
The Skintimate and Edge Shave gels are still free after RR, and will run that way all month.

Nature Made Vitamins will be B1G1. Use $1 or $2 coupons from the 1/4, 2/1 or 3/1SS

Someone also made note of finding Seventh Generation cleaners on clearance for $2.29. If you find this, there are also $1 off printables on the Seventh Gen. website.
Strawberries have been spotted at Walmart (and maybe Summerfresh, too) right now for $1.10/1 lb carton. Sounds like a good price for freezing!
Thanks Lisa!

Sunday Inserts 4/5

If you are wondering whether to get a paper on Sunday, I would say this is a good week.
There are supposed to be 5 inserts this week (2 SS, 2RP, and 1 PG)! I recommend picking up the Kansas City Star to maximize your coupons.

HERE is a list of the coupons in tomorrow's paper, and HERE for the PG insert. (Keep in mind, it may not be an exact match for our papers.)

Go Green, Go Cloth diaper meeting

Lotta is hosting another Go Green, Go Cloth diaper meeting.

Monday, April 6th, 5-7 pm at Panera Bread on National and Elm in Springfield, MO.

She will talk about cloth diapering 101 and will have display items.
There is also a drawing for a free AIO diaper.
Invite a friend, sip coffee, and talk diapers! My kind of night!

Blog Biz

Save Green, Live Green is now over a week old! If you are just now finding it, feel free to scan some of the older posts. The "Intro" posts mention a little of what I am trying to do here.

Just wanted to point out some features. Concerning blogging, I am learning as I go.

If you would like to receive new posts by email, feel free to sign-up for that on the right.

You can also email me anytime with any ideas or feedback. I would love to hear if you find a great deal or event of interest--whether it be regional or beyond. Or, just drop me a line and let me know if something has been of use.

You can follow Save Green, Live Green by signing up also.

My next goal is to add a Search feature soon. (fingers crossed)

Feel free to forward a link on to friends that might be interested.

I think the future of the blog, whether it be hobby or consistent resource, largely depends on how helpful it is found to be.

Price Cutter: week of 4/1

I ran to Price Cutter today and noticed a couple things. I will say that my PC does not have the organic section, so I rarely know if there is anything on sale there, unless it is in the ad. Feel free to email me if you see a noteworthy sale.

Smart Chicken boneless, skinless breasts $3.99/lb for some

Natural Imitation Crab/Lobster 10/$10 This seems like a great stocking up price. It is wild caught Alaskan pollack mixed with crab or lobster. No dyes, etc. Now I need ideas on what to do with it. Stir-fry or crab dip come to mind--not very creative, I know.

Campbell's Harvest Select Soups 2/$3.00 (don't have to buy2) I know there is a $.50/1 coupon, which would double (PC doubles coupons up to $.50) and make it 1/$1.

It seems like all of the Farmland All Natural pork products are on sale this week. We are well stocked on the bacon (which is uncured), but if we weren't, $2.69/pack is a great price. There is also lunchmeat (I think they have turkey and ham) on sale, as well as some other things.

Sargento cheese is also on sale. I think it was $2.49/8 oz. pk? This is also for the Artisan cheese. Looks like this sale runs till 4/21.

Bank of America gives Free admission to Museums

Bank of America members will receive free admission to over 70 Museums around the country on the first weekend of every month. Go HERE to read more about it. I would be more excited about this if there was a museum in MO on the list, but if you are traveling, it would be nice to know about.

What to Plant When?

This information was taken from an article at MotherEarthNews.com You can see it in its entirety HERE.

Very early spring (as soon as the ground can be worked)

  • Onions
  • peas
  • spinach

Early spring

  • lettuce
  • beets
  • carrots
  • radishes
  • dill
  • cilantro
  • cabbage
  • broccoli
  • celery
  • kale
  • potatoes

After last frost date

  • beans
  • corn
  • melons
  • cucumbers
  • squash
  • tomatoes
  • peppers
  • pumpkins
  • eggplant
  • basil
Looks like 1st week of May would be the last frost date for the Springfield, MO area.
Check your frost date by going to the NCDC website. Select your state, and then find the city closest to you.

Here is the MU Vegetable Planting Calendar. Thanks Kim!

Who wants to know what's on sale at MJs?

It frustrates me a little bit that I cannot see what is on sale at Mama Jean's before I go shopping. I am a plan-it-out kind of girl. I want to hunt up my coupons. Well, I have thought about seeing if they would email me an informal list. But, if I am going to ask, I would like to let them know who might benefit from such an effort on their part. If you would like something like this posted here, leave a comment. If I can get a response from, say, 10-15 of you, I will stick my neck out and ask them. =)

Target: week of 4/1

I was at Target today:

Kashi cereal, granola bars, and cereal bars $2.66 So if you still have coupons for the cereal bars, they would be only $.66/box!

Archer Farms organic frozen fruit was on sale. I bought a bag of raspberries for $2.60

Newman's Own Spaghetti Sauce $1.75 I used $.50/1 coupon from the 3/29 SS (last sun. paper) I think this was even less than marked, otherwise I would have gotten another!

Kiss My Face Orange U Smart products were on sale. Not as cheap as Frontier, though. (and I bought some! guess I'll be returning that.)

Kids N Pets Enzyme Stain Remover was priced at $4.74. I used THIS $2 off coupon (good at either walmart or target). I really like this stuff. I have used it to clean up cat pee, kid pee and vomit. It also seems to work well on laundry and carpet stains. (I would not use it on diapers, as enzymes can be very irritating to sensitive skin)

If you got the Target Baby mailer this past week, it included a couple nice coupons:
$2 off California Baby (still pricey, but if you are buying it already!)
$.50 off Earth's Best organic baby food I used this today to get the smallest jar for $.04
$1 off Johnson't baby care toiletry This will get you a Buddy Bar free--you can always donate it.
If you didn't get the mailer, but would like to, you could probably go sign up on the target website.

Did you find something I missed?

$1 Reams of Paper at Staples

I found out that Staples was offering printing paper in store for $6.99 with a $5.99 rebate...$1/ream!! I flew in to town today to check it out. They had not even unpacked the promotion yet. So, if you have been printing out as many coupons as I have, treat yourself to some dirt cheap paper. Also, I should be getting back about $5 in Staples Rewards, so it will be even less. They do accept competitor coupons, so take one with you if you have one. I printed an Office Depot coupon, but they said it couldn't be a printout or copy. They got in 60 reams today (and I bought 8), so these won't last long if that is all they get.

The 31st season coming up: Saturday, April 11 - October 31
They provide a harvest calendar HERE to let you know what you might find there.

Looks like the Marshfield Farmers' Market will begin May 1st.

Good Earth Coffee

Good Earth is offering a coupon good for $2 off its organic, premium coffee -- available in three varieties: medium roast, dark roast and decaf. Yum. (ok, I don't really drink it unless it is sugary and chocolatey, but I LOVE the smell!)

While you are there, you might want to sign-up to win $25,000. And, note that if you win, the prize money will be split between you and your favorite charity! Don't have a favorite charity? Put in "New Life Evangelistic Center" in the box! That's mine.

Dillons: Week of 4/1

I just got back from Dillon's today. Me and the three kids. Wowzers. I won't go into details.

So, I think I will just note things of interest--rather than tell you everything I bought. I felt a little naked doing that. I mean, we definitely have our compromises with food. Did you notice that we are chronic "snackers"?

Barbara's Shredded Wheat Cereals on sale $3.79, use $1/1 coupon printable on coupons.com (click on icon in upper right corner)

Near East Couscous and Pilaf mixes were $2.19 each

Imagine Broth on sale for $2.99-- use $1.50/2 printable

Kellog's Raisin Bran on sale for $2.18-- $1/1 printable (says any Raisin Bran)

Organic Salad mixes on sale 2/$6 (this sale has been running for awhile) while you wait for yours to grow! =)

Celestial Seasoning Teas were $1.79-- I know there are some $1/1 coupons out there.

There is a big P&G promotion this week-- Buy 3 participating items and get $3 off.
If you have a Dillon's card, be sure to add PG e-saver items before you go shopping. These were just reloaded today with all new coupons. Also, match them up with coupons you received in previous PG inserts from the paper. All of these coupons expired 3/31, but I called Dillon's, and they said they would accept coupons that were recently expired (and not in mass quantities--I mentioned I might use 5 and they said no problem).

What I did: *price reflects -$1 for promo ($3 off 3 items)
Gillette Body Wash $2.50*, esaver coupon -$2, man. cp. -$2 (moneymaker!)
Oral-B thbrsh twinpack $2.69*, esaver -$.50, mc -$2
Iams Cat Food $12.99*, esaver -$3, mc -$5
(all mc's I got from expired PG inserts)

Be aware, that after all that, my $3 credit did not show up on my receipt. My toothbrushes may not have qualified, although they had a sign over them. It was actually one of several issues during my transaction. I just went to customer service and they handed me cash pretty easily.

Not part of the promo, but I also got free toothpaste!
Colgate Max Fresh on sale 2/$5 (don't have to buy 2), cellfire e-coupon-$1.50, mc- $.75 (store makes it $1) Great to donate!

There is a special one-day only sale on Thursday, April, 2. Eggs, butter and tons of other things will be on sale.

Oh, and they do not have the Go Organic coupon books. I am checking to see when/if they will get them.

z
